JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Engineering Platforms and Integrated Experience organisation, you serve in a leadership role by providing technical coaching and advisory for multiple technical teams, as well as anticipate the needs and potential dependencies of other functions within the firm. As an expert in your field, your insights influence budget and technical considerations to advance operational efficiencies and functionalities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, CAPABILITIES, AND SKILLS

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and advanced applied experience. In addition, proven experience leading technologists to manage and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise.
  • Experience working alongside a product management team to establish and scope requirements
  • Ability to guide and coach teams on approach to achieve goals aligned against a set of strategic initiatives
  • Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent
  • Practical cloud native experience
  • Experience writing well-tested, secure, and readable code in Java (or similar object-oriented languages)
  • Familiarity with RESTful web services development using Spring Boot or a similar framework
  • Familiarity with TDD and automated testing methods
  • Strong understanding of good coding practices, Object Oriented design principles, configuration management and code refactoring

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, CAPABILITIES, AND SKILLS

  • Experience working within an agile cross-functional product team alongside user experience and product management colleagues
  • Experience with data-driven business intelligence systems and data visualization products
  • Experience with maintaining large relational database systems such as PostgreSQL or Oracle, using SQL
  • Practical understanding of containerized application development and deployment (using Docker, Kubernetes, etc)
  • Experience with the development of GraphQL API

Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall direction, oversight, and coaching for a team of entry-level to mid-level software engineers that work on basic to moderately complex tasks
  • Accountable for decisions that influence teams’ resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures
  • Ensures successful collaboration across teams and stakeholders
  • Identifies and mitigates issues to execute a book of work while escalating issues as necessary
  • Provides input to leadership regarding budget, approach, and technical considerations to improve operational efficiencies and functionality for the team
  • Creates a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect for team members and prioritizes diverse representation
  • Creates a culture of technical excellence, guiding teams to develop their software development methodologies and skills to deliver secure, stable code and systems
  • Identifies dependencies and works with development teams on planning cross-team technical integrations
