About the role
In addition to clinical duties, the CLS Officer will provide advice, support and training to court and watch house staff on mental health issues. CLS are established in locations across Queensland. Depending on the demonstrated skills and personal preference as outlined in individual applications and discussed at interview the successful applicant will be required to work across a number of sites within South-East Queensland including frequent travel to sites across South-West Queensland (ie. Roma, Charleville, St George, Cunnamulla).
About you
This successful applicant will carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health’s values:

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake mental health assessments (including those people with complex psychosocial circumstances) in watch house and court settings by using a high degree of independent judgement and problem solving skills.
  • Apply professional judgement to complex cases, utilising evidence based clinical practice.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2016 and its application.
  • Develop an understanding of the new mental health act and perform functions as required under changes to the legislation in accordance with CLS procedures as they develop. This may require written reports to various members of the court systems.

The service has a strong commitment to research and quality improvement. It is a requirement that the Court Liaison Officer has an active role in leading others towards service development, evaluation and research initiatives by:

  • Monitoring and reporting on clinical practices and outcomes within the Queensland Forensic Mental Health Service (QFMHS) and actively participate in initiating, developing and implementing quality and service improvement activities.
  • Providing orientation, ongoing training and support, mentoring and clinical practice supervision where required to less experienced forensic mental health clinicians in collaboration with the team leader and Clinical Director.
  • Collaborating in the initiation, development and provision of training to other mental health staff and provide professional education sessions to others within the service.
