SUMMARY

This position leads and/or examines, monitors, and assesses the financial soundness, business strategies and regulatory compliance of financial institutions.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develops and maintains a risk based supervisory strategy for financial institutions.
  • Leads and/or conducts on-site reviews of financial institutions to review business models, strategies, and products to identify and assess inherent risks and assess risk management control functions.
  • Maintains an updated and accurate risk profile for institutions.
  • Prepares reports and recommendations relating to intervention levels and actions to address deficiencies.
  • Prepares supervisory letters and monitors financial institutions to ensure implementation of corrective actions and compliance with relevant governing regulations and supervisory requirements.
  • Manages stakeholder relationships including institution senior management and board members.
  • Monitors and evaluates macro-economic, sector and regulatory developments, policies, and statistics to determine the impact on provincially regulated financial institutions.
  • Contributes to practice development and regulatory best practices.
  • Contributes to the team’s development of internal work practices (e.g., policies, procedures and tools).
  • Provides orientation and training to internal and/or external stakeholders within area of responsibility.
  • Contributes to, participates in, and supports organizational business transformation initiatives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of British Columbia’s supervisory framework governing regulated financial sectors.
  • Knowledge of financial analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of risk management principles and methods.
  • Ability to manage projects.
  • Ability to exercise judgement, initiative, and discretion.
  • Ability to analyze business plans and financial statements.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.

EDUCATION

  • Degree in business administration, statistics, or economics and several years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Related experience includes:
  • Financial analysis
  • Internal/external audit
  • Risk management
  • Interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, and/or policy
  • Preference may be given to applicants with Industry experience in at least one of insurance, credit union, banking, trusts, or related industries.
