We are currently looking for highly motivated scientists with excellent laboratory skills to join the Bioscience COPD/IPF team within the Early Respiratory & Immunology Department, based in Cambridge, UK. You will collaborate with scientists from a variety of functional teams in Cambridge and with our sites in Gothenburg, Sweden and Gaithersburg, US.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- An effective team member, supporting drug discovery projects to meet their objectives
- Can conduct, where appropriate, more than one area of work in parallel and to agreed timelines
- Can interpret experimental data and play a meaningful role in the planning of further experiments
- Contribution to writing peer-reviewed publications, abstracts and patents
- Responsible for ensuring that their scientific knowledge influences project progression in accordance with portfolio priorities
- Ensures that work is performed in alignment with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- A PhD or BSc/MSc with relevant experimental experience
- Candidates should be able to work independently, take own initiatives and have a positive, results oriented and problem-solving attitude.
- Highly organized and self-motivated, collaborator
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills
- Good knowledge and understanding of chronic respiratory diseases such as COPD or IPF (and ideally experience researching these diseases)
- Strong hands-on experience with human primary cell culture and primary cell assays
- Experience in the use of immunological, pharmacological, cellular or molecular methods (in vitro, ex vivo) relevant to the study of respiratory disease (for example, ELISA, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, western blotting, molecular biology, gene editing, imaging and image analysis)
DESIRABLE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Experience working with human lung epithelial cells, fibroblasts, precision cut lung slices or human lung explants
- Knowledge or experience of the drug discovery process

Responsibilities:
As part of the team you will develop, design, complete and analyse in vitro experiments to progress our drug discovery projects and publishable scientific insights in chronic lung diseases such as COPD and IPF. You are encouraged to stay up to date with emerging literature and take a part in scientific discussion to add input in experimental design and data interpretation to drive projects and techniques within the team. Teamwork is critical for successful project delivery, and you will proactively contribute to a vibrant and innovative working environment.
This is a laboratory-based position where you will be involved in multiple ongoing projects, utilising primary cells, cell lines and ex vivo models. We are looking for someone with strong experience in culturing and use of human primary cells, immunoassays, protein and RNA analysis and immunohistochemistry.
