We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Underwriter specializing in Personal Accident and Travel Insurance to join our Accident & Health (A&H) team. This role requires a deep understanding of underwriting practices, product development, and risk management within the A&H sector. The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping and driving the success of our Personal Accident and Travel Insurance portfolios, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals and growth objectives.
The position is based on site in any of our Irish offices in Dublin, Galway or Cork, with an opportunity to benefit from Aviva’s smart working arrangements which offers a mix of home and office working.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwriting Leadership:
  • Lead the underwriting process for Personal Accident and Travel Insurance products, ensuring adherence to company policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management standards.
  • Evaluate and approve high-value and complex cases, providing expert risk assessments and pricing recommendations.
  • Product Development:
  • Design and launch innovative Personal Accident and Travel Insurance products that meet market needs and drive growth.
  • Conduct regular market analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive positioning.
  • Provide strategic insights to enhance existing products, ensuring they remain competitive and relevant in a rapidly evolving market.
  • Portfolio Management:
  • Manage the performance of the Personal Accident and Travel Insurance portfolios, monitoring key metrics.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on portfolio performance to senior management, highlighting key trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Work closely with the Sales, Marketing, and Distribution teams to support the growth of the A&H business through brokers, partners, and direct channels.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including brokers, partners and internal teams.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure all underwriting practices comply with local and international regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory changes and ensure timely implementation of necessary adjustments to underwriting practices and product offerings.

Skills and experience:

  • A degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred, but equivalent professional experience will also be considered particularly International or EEA experience.
  • Professional qualifications (e.g., ACII, CPCU) are advantageous, and relevant industry experience is highly valued.
  • Experience in Accident & Health underwriting, with a strong focus on Personal Accident and Travel Insurance.
  • Proven track record in product development, portfolio management, and risk assessment within the A&H insurance space.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
