Description:

The overall objective of this position is to support for the Sommelier / Wine Blender in completing responsibilities in the various food & beverage outlets. This position is primarily responsible for selling wine and engaging with guests to enhance their experience, in addition to coordinating activities of the tasting room to provide fast and courteous service to patrons. The Sommelier Assistant must also confidently facilitate Wine Blending Classes and complete sidework tasks for the Tasting Room.

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS / WORK/INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE:

  • Hospitality or related industry experience - required
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Guests and Grand Performers in the English language - required
  • Retail Experience - preferred
  • Audio / Visual Equipment, and editing abilities - preferred
  • Graphic Design experience - preferred
  • Experience in similar size organizations - preferred

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES (KSA’S) & COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge of guest service etiquette and proper food and beverage serving techniques- required
  • Knowledge of basic wine and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, wine service, glass terminology-required
  • Knowledge of Database software; Internet software; Inventory software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software; Scheduling Software, NapaTech Software, Adobe Design Software; Social Media
  • Skill in communicating effectively both in print and verbally, as well as effectively presenting information and respond to questions from guests in both small and large group settings
  • High attention to detail and ability to work independently is critical

WINE/FOOD KNOWLEDGE

  • Possess an excellent ability to explain and sell all wine items (i.e. present wine options, answer questions and make suggestions regarding food and beverage, including pairings)
  • Monitor and critique the quality and consistency of the Beverage product
  • Conduct Blending classes, following lesson plans
  • Assist in developing materials (tasting notes) for print for guests as well as staff
  • Assist with development and upkeep of winelist for tasting room as well as restaurant/ bar
