Description:
REQUIREMENT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Strong record-keeping techniques.
- AA Degree, 24-48 semester units of higher education in child development preferred
- First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus
Responsibilities:
- Assist speech pathologists with the presentation of learning materials and the conduct of instructional exercises.
- Escort students to designated areas for their virtual speech and language therapy sessions.
- Monitor and assist students with special learning needs in drill, practice, study activities, and the remediation of speech-related problems.
- Assist students during speech therapy sessions.
- Assist in the preparation of a variety of speech-instructional materials and speech-learning aides.
- Direct students into safe learning activities and functions and assist in shaping appropriate social behaviors.
- Ensure all necessary technology (e.g., laptops, tablets, microphones) is properly set up and functioning for virtual sessions and supervise students during the session to ensure they remain engaged and follow the SLP’s instructions.
- Assist in the management of student behavior through the use of positive reinforcement strategies and techniques.
- Assist students with special physical needs.
- Assist in the distribution and collection of materials.
- Perform routine clerical duties; operate equipment, including computers and copy machines.
- Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly, patient attitude, and general guidance.
- May require assisting with students’ personal needs, including toileting, in conjunction with site nursing staff as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
