Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead the technical work of the team through experimentation, design and implementation of state of the art models, algorithms and ML infrastructure to maximize the efficacy of Tessian products
  • Partner with Product to identify key areas of improvement and research through a data-driven approach and help define and refine the team’s technical roadmap
  • Be responsible for technical delivery of their team e.g. ensuring proposals and deliveries use appropriate technologies, PR (Pull Request) reviews follow best practices and guidelines
  • Be a leader and champion for the technical and operational aspects of the team’s stack including driving technical initiatives to improve them
  • Participate in cross-team initiatives contributing to architectural improvements and develop cross functional relationships the team needs for success
  • Work closely with the team’s Engineering Manager to understand the performance, and opportunities for the development and upskilling of team members.
  • Support the development of team members through regular 1-1s and coaching
  • Champion learning and experimentation within the team through discussions, evaluation and adoption of latest technologies and developments in machine learning

Qualifications/Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist with 2+ years as a team lead or in a technical leadership role (line management experience not essential)
  • Track record of leading multiple highly impactful machine learning projects from inception to completion with proven results
  • Advanced knowledge of Python, SQL, Spark and familiarity with challenges working with large volumes of unstructured text data
  • In-depth knowledge of transformer architecture and experience in solving real-world NLP problems.
  • Hands on experience with fine-tuning and deploying LLMs is desirable
  • Experience working with deep learning frameworks and libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, JAX, HuggingFace
  • Conceptual understanding of Graph Neural Networks and experience applying GNNs to solve real world problem statements such as fraud or anomaly detection is desirable
  • Has solid understanding of MLOps including infrastructure and best practices to train, deploy and monitor models at scale on the cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP)
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and effectively communicate with stakeholders at multiple levels and across disciplines
  • Enjoys collaboration and working with others
  • Can construct good arguments for methodologies and best practices
