THE OFFICE OF VOLUNTARY SUB-WARDEN – DAVID COLLETT HALL
A promising opportunity has opened up in the David Collett Halls of Residence for an individual to commence a 12 month, fixed term sub-warden appointment. Applications for this career-building opportunity are invited from doctoral researchers only – ideally with a substantial amount of time remaining on their programme. Furthermore, applicants must already be living in Halls within a 5 minute walking distance of David Collett.
The Hall: David Collett Hall is an idyllic community hidden in the leaves just off-campus on Ashby Road. The Hall is unique in attracting both undergraduate and postgraduate students to its Unite owned grounds enabling students to enjoy a more diverse community that prides itself with the best of both campus and town, as well as domestic and international students.
Duties: David Collett Sub-Wardens assist the Warden in the day to day running of the hall. This may involve pastoral, disciplinary and administrative duties as well as being involved in social aspects of hall life. The successful applicant will be part of a team which provides out-of-hours emergency cover in a hall of almost 400 students, fostering a positive student experience.
Personal Attributes: Candidates must display a high level of personal organisational ability, excellent communication skills, good administrative ability, leadership qualities and be a good team player. Sub-Wardens are expected to demonstrate a commitment to the community spirit of the Hall, spending roughly 14 hours of work towards the role on a weekly basis.
Accommodation and Catering Arrangements: Free accommodation is available throughout the year subject to the continual fulfilment of shifts. Typically, accommodation available for Sub-Wardens is only suitable for a single person. David Collett Hall is self-catered, however some meals are provided during term time through the diners+ scheme.
Get to Know the Role and Team: The successful applicant must be available to attend Sub-Warden training sessions as required (e.g. First Aid Training, Annual Sub-Warden Training), typically taking across September. It is highly recommended that prospective candidates research to understand the role and the lifestyle changes it requires. This could include exploring the Student Services website or contacting the Sub warden Team below. If you do, please CC all members in to find out about Hall life and duties in David Collett Hall:
You will be welcomed to meet the David Collett Warden Team on Tuesday 10th June at 6-7pm in the David Collett dining hall for dinner. If you would like to attend, please reach out to the Warden. Please note, this session will not be recorded.
Application Procedures: Applicants should complete and submit the following documentation to the David Collett Hall Warden email T.Leeland@lboro.ac.uk by midnight on Thursday 12th June (11:59pm):
Interviews will take place during the evening in the week commencing Tuesday 17th June 2025. The successful candidate should be ready to start their duties in the week commencing Monday 25th August 2025 or earlier.
In addition, the successful applicant will be required to take a day away from their studies on Monday 22nd September 2025 to assist the Warden’s Team during David Collett’s First Years Arrivals Day.
