The Trade and Value-Added Branch of the Ministry of Agriculture has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal, co-operative, and leadership skills to fill the position of Trade Policy Analyst.
Responsibilities:
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL SUPPORT THE SASKATCHEWAN AGRICULTURE AND FOOD INDUSTRIES BY:
- Conducting economic and program analysis and policy research related to Saskatchewan agricultural trade;
- Providing information and analysis to senior management on trade policy matters, including developments at the World Trade Organization, trade disputes, and trade agreements (both domestic and international);
- Engaging with industry to understand their concerns and priorities regarding trade and market access issues; and
- Representing Saskatchewan’s interests at the Federal-Provincial Agriculture Trade Policy Committee.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:
- Use effective verbal and written communication skills to explain research methods, trade concepts and rules, programs and policies to a variety of audiences;
- Identify and analyze trends and issues, develop options or solutions, and make recommendations;
- Work both individually and in conjunction with colleagues across the ministry and in other organizations to meet objectives;
- Plan and organize multiple, complex tasks and projects;
- Search for and assess information to draw conclusions about the application of programs, policies, procedures, acts, regulations and guidelines; and
- Develop and apply research methodologies in the analysis of policies and programs and generate reports using word processing, databases, spreadsheets and other software packages.
This work will require knowledge of economic trade theory and policy; agriculture trade flows; international institutions that impact agriculture trade; international and internal trade agreements important to Saskatchewan; and provincial, federal and international programs, policies and agencies affecting the agriculture and food industries and agricultural trade.
Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be acquired through completion of a Masters degree in Economics, Masters of Science in Agricultural Economics, Masters of Public Policy or a related field, or a related undergraduate degree with experience in the area of international relations, economics, or trade.
This position is required to travel within and outside of Canada.
