What to Expect
Tesla’s Autobidder team is driving the future of energy trading and battery optimization. In this role, you’ll develop Python-based tools, run simulations, and analyze electricity markets to maximize the performance of Tesla’s energy storage fleet. You’ll work at the intersection of data science, market operations, and energy policy—delivering insights that directly influence trading strategies and revenue outcomes.
We’re looking for a motivated, collaborative team member with a solid foundation in coding, a strong interest in electricity markets, and a passion for driving the clean energy transition.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop analytical and reporting tools in Python that help monitor the performance of the wholesale battery fleet and provide insights into future trading decisions.
  • Monitor market design evolution and engage with stakeholders in our key markets and analyze the impact of policy changes on storage monetization in electricity markets.
  • Provide fundamental analysis, insights, and expertise in electricity markets that fuel our competitive advantage in algorithmic electricity market trading by working alongside developers of machine learning models, optimization models, and software services.
  • Continuously ensure that the Autobidder team maximizes market revenue in the market you are responsible for.
  • Structure batch experiments through our proprietary simulation platform and conduct forensic analysis of outputs to explain performance and identify opportunities for algorithmic improvements.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for Autobidder market operations.
  • Lead regular meetings across Tesla, with customers, and with external organizations to communicate overall fleet performance.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent in work experience
  • Experience in electricity market trading or research, with a focus on energy storage participation.
  • Expertise in one or more European wholesale electricity markets (e.g. Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, etc.), including both energy and ancillary services products.
  • Experience with writing production code in Python for daily reporting and batch simulations, alongside ability to build analytical tools.
  • Passion for extracting insights from large amounts of data and complete comfort in communicating highly technical topics to a range of audiences.
  • Ability to quickly make analysis-based decisions in uncertain situations.
  • Collaborative teammate excited to compete as a team.

Preferred Experience

  • Proficiency in: SQL, Git, Docker.
  • Experience in the stationary storage industry, or prior modeling of stationary storage energy market applications.
  • Familiarity with linear optimization or time-series forecasting methods.
