Description:
SUMMARY
Research Technician for the care and maintenance of aquarium systems and research fish colonies, including husbandry, breeding, and experimental research, including the supervision of undergraduate research students.
QUALIFICATIONS
- B.Sc. in Biology or final year (a minimum of 90 credits and declaration in the Biology program).
- Specific training or work experience (at least 1 year) in the husbandry and care of small laboratory fishes such as zebrafish or medaka.
- Laboratory research experience, preferably including the techniques mentioned above.
- Good personal skills, organizational ability, research and work habits, preferably including supervision of other workers.

Anticipated hourly pay rate: $23.00
Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintenance of laboratory aquarium systems, including water quality monitoring and control, emergency alarm response, and regular system maintenance.
- Feeding, care, and husbandry of small laboratory fish colony, including health checks, monitoring water quality, emergency response, maintaining stocks, genetic crossing and strain maintenance, and euthanasia.
- Experimental research including (but not limited to) embryo treatment and chemical exposures, fin biopsy and genotyping, fish microdissection and microinjection, microscopy and data collection.
- Supervision of undergraduate research students, including organization of breeding schedules and student lab/equipment access.
- Data analysis, including statistical analysis, image and video processing, research of the literature, and writing of research findings, including data tables and figures.
- Maintenance of research area, including organization and cleaning.
