The opportunity
Our South Bow – Cypress East team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in Saskatchewan to support the operation and maintenance of our liquid’s pipelines and associated facilities throughout the surrounding area.
We are seeking a skilled Pipeline Technician who possesses knowledge and experience of liquids pipeline systems, first calls, crossing agreements and excavation. This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.

What you’ll do

  • Electronically locate, visually mark and document subsurface pipeline infrastructure with paint and/or flags.
  • Receive, triage, coordinate and manage One Call requests and aerial patrol reports.
  • Oversee and manage 3rd party pipeline or utility crossings and encroachments.
  • Familiar with pipeline construction and installation methods (Opencut Crossings, Bored installations, HDD, daylighting)
  • Perform pipeline maintenance activities including not limited to clearing and inspection of right-of-way, regulatory compliance, landowner, and third-party interaction.
  • Install and maintain pipeline ROW signage and markers.
  • Perform pipeline locates through the footprint of the Hardisty and Cypress areas.
  • Operate company truck.
  • Oversight of supporting Environmental Specialist with Vegetation management.
  • Facilitate aerial patrol reporting, Eagle Eye, GIS, GPS, Abadata & Utilisphere
  • Plan, coordinate, and perform maintenance activities, to include routine corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, equipment and system improvements, and major maintenance projects.
  • Valve site Preventative / Corrective maintenance.
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in Computer Maintenance Management System
  • Support the development, communication, and execution of third-party crossing and facility installation agreements.
  • Support the public awareness program through third-party and landowner interaction.
  • Respond and support unauthorized activities.
  • Support regulatory reporting of unauthorized activities through information gathering and corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide support to Emergency Management
  • Work in the field with some office-based tasks
  • Active Control requirement experience with supervision and directing contractors.
  • Other tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience locating and marking subsurface pipeline infrastructure
  • Familiar with and can perform passive, direct indirect locates on, pipeline, electrical and cathodic protection systems
  • Experience with Provincial / Federal Ground Disturbance Regulations
  • Previous energy industry or related experience

This position requires candidates to

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Be able to travel to the Unites States as required.
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, to include drug and alcohol testing.
  • Be subject to call out rotation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes.
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training which will involve overnight stays away from home.
  • Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures, heavy lifting (50 pounds), walking extended distances, and cramped conditions
  • Driving a motor vehicle is an essential job function of this position. Following a conditional offer of employment, the Company will check the motor vehicle records of any job applicant when driving is an essential job function.
