Description:

Sartor and Associates Inc. has been retained by Enova Power Corp. to recruit a Director of Operations. Located in Kitchener, Ontario, Enova Power Corp. is a progressive company dedicated to energizing and empowering our communities while providing the highest level of service and a safe and positive work environment.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Engineering or other related field
  • Certification in Leadership Training
  • Professional Engineering license (P.Eng.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) designation is an asset

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in electrical utility distribution system design or field experience constructing and maintaining power distribution systems, preferably in a unionized environment
  • 5 plus years in a progressive senior leadership role

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Advanced knowledge of budgeting, customer service, strategic planning and cost controls
  • Advanced knowledge of the Work Protection Code, EUSA rules, ESA Distribution Safety Regulations, IESO and OEB codes and regulations, and all other applicable government regulations
  • Advanced knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements
  • Intermediate knowledge of Ministry of Transportation regulations affecting fleet operations
  • Intermediate knowledge of electrical distribution systems, SCADA systems, and transformer station operations
  • Advanced knowledge of the contents and administration of the collective agreement
  • Intermediate knowledge of the Employment Standards Act

SKILLS:

  • Advanced analytical, project planning and project management skills to ensure effective, timely and on-budget outcomes
  • Ability to respond to safety and technical issues expediently and consistent with company policy
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to deliver engaging presentations to various audiences
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various internal and external stakeholders
  • Intermediate skills in MS Office and project management
  • Ability to provide strong leadership to motivate and direct work to ensure consistency with the objectives of the organization

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning & Provision of Expert Advice: Provide short and long-term strategic direction for the corporation’s Operations needs through engagement with the Executive Team (ET) and ensuring alignment with the Corporate Strategic Plan. Counsel and confer with the VP of Grid Transformation & Chief Distribution Officer and ET members as required regarding operational issues and any unusual items that would have a significant effect on the Corporation. Investigate and make recommendations to the ET to provide business solutions in support of corporate objectives.
  • Budgeting: Manage the capital and operating budget for the department consistent with corporate objectives. Monitor performance measures (capital project costs, operating account totals) for the Operations work group and develop and implement corrective actions as needed. Work in cooperation with ET regarding any corporate wide budgeting constraints.
  • Administration: Direct the development of policies and procedures and ensure approval of all required expenditures.
  • Staffing: Manage, direct and optimize the deployment of operations staff resources. Delegate and plan work schedules, hire, manage performance, conduct reviews, and ensure that training and development are available to enhance performance and knowledge level of staff. Ensure that staff is cross trained for appropriate backup procedures to cover absences. Ensure compliance with corporate policies, procedures, established best practices, and relevant regulatory rules and regulations.
  • Labour Relations: Manage staff to ensure that the Collective Agreement is administered in a fair and equitable manner and promotes a positive culture for union/management relations. When requested, attend Labour Management meetings and participate in labour negotiations.
  • Process Improvement: Initiate, facilitate and participate in core business process improvements across the corporation ensuring streamlined processes, reduction of costs and continual improvement of corporate productivity.
  • Fleet: Develop and implement the fleet renewal plan and oversee the management of the organization’s fleet.
  • Safety: Provide leadership for Occupational Health & Safety activities for the organization to effectively promote a culture of health, safety and loss prevention. Conduct safety visits and participate in monthly safety meetings. Review accident/incident reports and ensure corrective actions are executed.
