Description:

As an Environmental Scientist – Risk Assessment Specialist, You will part of Millennium EMS Solutions Ltd. (MEMS’) Brownfield Assessment and Development (BAD) Service Group providing technical support for human health and ecological risk assessment projects along with environmental site assessment (ESA), remediation and re-development services for clients throughout Canada. This position focuses on the excellent execution of client-specific scopes of work, accurate project progress tracking and reporting and is a key contributor to the mentorship and development of junior support staff. This incumbent can execute work scopes or projects in adherence to client-specific expectations and scopes of work and MEMS outlined health, safety, environmental and wellness policies. This position is full time and requires a combination of field and office work.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct literature searches and a thorough review, interpretation and summary of scientific literature to answer specific questions/problems;
  • Engaging with the risk assessment team to develop and update appropriate conceptual site models for a range of projects including complex sites.
  • Conducting site specific risk assessments and developing risk-based remedial objectives for contaminated sites of intermediate to high complexity with senior supervision.
  • Working with senior risk assessment staff to develop appropriate risk-based site management strategies.
  • Complete exposure modelling for both human and ecological receptors with limited senior oversight;
  • Ability to sort, analyze, and summarize data for complex projects.
  • Taking on a supporting role in human and ecological risk assessment projects for complex sites, environmental impact assessments and health impact assessments.
  • Complete field work to support ecological risk assessments.
  • Ability to take ownership of a project and produce high-quality work, with consideration given to deadlines, budget and work load.
  • Prepare results, written summaries, tables and graphs for use in project deliverables.
  • The ability to work well with others and to participate effectively in group initiatives to support the achievement of common objectives.
  • Knowledge of human health risk assessment methods.
  • Providing technical support as needed to other Millennium service areas within and outside of the BAD service group including site assessment and remediation, either in the office or field.
  • Leading the scoping, execution planning, organization and oversight of field and/or office- based programs for human and ecological risk assessment, Phase 1 and 2 ESA’s and remediation projects, including soil and groundwater assessments, with a focus on sites requiring risk-based solutions.
  • Working with contractors to implement risk assessment, ESA and remediation projects.
  • Accurate field cost tracking of expenses and contractors.
  • Executing all aspects of the project in accordance with the contract and ensuring quality of processes and deliverables.
  • Mentoring and career development of junior personnel in both field and office-related tasks.
  • Documentation and reporting of competency development of junior staff with respect to field technical skillsets.
  • Other duties as assigned.
