Role specification
The Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the University’s internal controls and risk management systems to safeguard the University’s assets and to minimise the chances of fraud or mismanagement.
The lay members of Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee, who by statute form the membership, have a vital part to play in the governance of the University and bring a knowledge and experience of particular value, given the nature of the environment in which universities work. It has a minimum of five members and meets four times a year. About you
Newcastle University now seeks a new Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee Member who will bring senior leadership experience in property development or the legal sector, or who will bring a global outlook to the Committee and who has operated in organisations with an international reach . They will be a critical friend, collaborative and have the ability to constructively challenge other Members and the senior leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity to make a considerable contribution to advancing the University’s core mission. They will be a strong external and internal ambassador for Newcastle University and will be able and keen to contribute to a broad range of University matters. We would welcome interest from people with a range of qualifications but we are particularly interested in those candidates who may have legal expertise, or experience in surveying, construction and property development. The ideal person will be collaborative, inclusive, and enabling in their approach. erms of appointment
There are four Committee meetings per year and Committee meetings are mainly held in-person. The role of Member is not remunerated, but reasonable travelling and accommodation expenses will be reimbursed. The term of office is for three years and membership may be renewed for up to two more terms of three years.
Location
Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee Members can be based locally or across the country as long as they can attend meetings in person.
