Description:

Penguin Random House is seeking a detail-oriented self-starter to join the Penguin Young Readers Group as a Financial Analyst. This position will report into the Director of Finance for the division and will have an active role in monthly reporting and analysis, budgeting, forecasting and ad hoc projects in support of all departments within the Penguin Young Readers Group.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong technical skills working within various systems and programs are mandatory for this role
  • Must be able to manipulate large amounts of data using advanced MS excel formulas, pivot tables, and v-lookups.
  • Experience with SAP and PowerBI preferred (ability to build reports in PowerBI a plus)
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of business experience in a finance/accounting role or related analytical role (book publishing and/or media a plus)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, preferably in Finance or Accounting, or a related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines and prioritize workload effectively
  • Superb attention to detail

Responsibilities:

  • Monthly / Quarterly Reporting
  • Prepare various sales reports including channel breakouts, top sales and returns by title, and net sales by category
  • Maintain, report, and analyze new title count
  • Track and analyze divisional marketing expenses by title and spend category vs. forecast and prior year
  • Compile financial packages for quarterly meetings and coordinate scheduling with all publishers/imprints
  • Budgeting / Forecasting
  • Assist in the development of the annual budget and reforecasts for Penguin Young Readers Group imprints
  • Compile and maintain title lists and overall title count
  • Assist in new title forecasting
  • Analyze and review marketing expense budget
  • Publishing Support
  • Compile new title analysis comparing current and future publishing using current sales estimates
  • Assist in the preparation of key author/brand dashboards and communicate results to editorial teams
  • Author sales, earnings, and advance reporting and analysis
  • Assist with review of author royalty statements
  • Identify areas of improvement and potential opportunities
  • Provide general ad hoc data and reporting upon request
