Description:
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide effective, reliable and professional support and advice to the Group on intellectual property (“IP”) matters.
- Oversee and manage with agents and service providers the registration, maintenance and renewal of trademarks, domain names, patents, and other types of IP, and ensure that DP World’s IP assets are protected at all times.
- Review, draft and advise on a wide range of IP agreements and documentation, including IP licences and assignments and IP provisions, ensuring that legal requirements are met within such documents.
- Manage IP disputes and oppositions, and determine and implement strategy to be followed in each case.
- Act as main point of contact in relation to all IP matters and requests, work closely with the relevant corporate functions, and local contacts in regional offices and business units across the Group on IP matters.
- Manage, coordinate and assist with IP queries and requests received by the department, and ensure that all IP requests are dealt with in a prompt and efficient manner.
- Assist with the implementation and management of DP World’s IP Policy and strategy at Group level.
- Maintain DP World’s IP Policy and processes, ensuring that they are always up to date and in line with the applicable laws and regulations and best industry standards.
- Manage the Group’s IP portfolio and maintain a register of DP World’s IP assets, ensure that all records are always up to date.
- Liaise with external legal counsel, agents and service providers on IP matters. Provide external counsel with clear and explicit instructions. Oversee and review work carried out by external counsel.
- Keep abreast of legal and regulatory changes affecting DP World from an IP perspective.
- Act as an ambassador for DP World at all times when working; promoting and demonstrating positive behaviours in harmony with DP World’s Principles, values and culture; ensuring the highest level of safety is applied in all activities; understanding and following DP World’s Code of Conduct and Ethics policies.Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Law Degree from an accredited University and professionally qualified as a lawyer.
- Minimum 5-7 years post qualification experience in intellectual property in an internationally recognised law firm and / or multinational company.
- Certified professional in intellectual property.
- Excellent technical legal skills, specifically in intellectual property.
- Excellent analytical and organisational skills, and language skills.
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
