Job description
As a Group Trade Compliance Officer, you will be accountable for Trade compliance towards executive management and be responsible for leading a team of trade compliance & logistics specialists to ensure adherence to all relevant regulations and laws governing international trade and support the business in various logistical matters. You will oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with customs regulations, export controls, and trade sanctions, and ensure continuous deployment of trainings to the business community. Your role will involve strategic planning, operational oversight, and coordination with various departments to optimize trade compliance processes. Using SAP GTS (Global Trade Services) for effectively managing trade compliance activities within the organization.

Your responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a global team of trade compliance & logistics specialists, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure compliance objectives are met.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain trade compliance policies and procedures to ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential compliance risks related to international trade activities and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Develop and drive effective and role-based training programs to continuously educate employees on trade compliance requirements and foster a culture of compliance within the organization.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments of trade compliance processes and activities to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains in trade compliance operations, and lead initiatives to implement best practices and streamline processes.
  • Utilize SAP GTS modules for trade compliance activities including classification, screening, customs management, and export controls. Provide training and support to team members on SAP GTS usage.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for trade compliance inquiries from internal stakeholders, and represent the company in alignment with management towards customs and other trade compliance authorities, industry organizations and other external stakeholders.
  • Cover trade compliance matters in M&A and other projects, and drive integration strategies.

Your background:

  • Degree or equivalent education/experience in International Business, Supply Chain Management, Law, or related field plus further professional qualification.
  • Professional certification in one of the trade compliance fields (e.g., Certified Export Compliance Officer) is preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years professional experience in Trade compliance or related field with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Proficiency in SAP GTS (Global Trade Services) or a comparable trade compliance system, with hands-on experience in utilizing it for trade compliance activities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of international trade regulations, including customs laws, export controls, sanctions programs, and import/export compliance requirements such as regulations administrated by OFAC, BIS, SECO and BAZG.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience in (trade) compliance methodologies and related concepts.
  • Proven leadership abilities with the capacity to motivate and mentor team members, foster a collaborative work environment, and drive results through effective delegation and performance management.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Fluent proficiency in English.
