Description:

JOB SUMMARY/BASIC FUNCTION

The Landfill and Compost Operations Manager is responsible for operations management of the City of Kelowna Landfill and both yard-waste and bio-solids composting operations.
Plans, organizes, leads and controls landfill and compost operations, and develops branch goals, standards, partnerships, policies and procedures to ensure sustainable, safe, and efficient utilization of financial, human and physical resources. Provides input and professional expertise related to overall Branch strategic plans, objectives and goals; is a representative of the Branch to City Council. This management position actively participates on corporate teams as required and is responsible for compliance with all regulatory, policy and legal infrastructure requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Post-secondary degree in Engineering, Science, Agriculture or other applicable technical discipline. Minimum 3 years leadership and management experience in the field of solid waste management with some relevant experience in compost operations.
Strong management, leadership and technical skills regarding the solid waste management including landfilling and collections. Multi-tasking to manage complex projects and multiple priorities effectively; analyze problems. Strong verbal and written communications with staff, political leaders and the public. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings. Budgeting procedures and techniques. Demonstrate a civic entrepreneurial spirit by generating new, innovative ideas and development of better methods to accomplish tasks and complete projects.
