Description:
The Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) has an immediate challenging opportunity for an entry level to intermediate counsel to join the Legal Services Branch to support the multi-faceted work within the Agency.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of and familiarity with: corporate and commercial law, environmental law, procurement law and Aboriginal law
- Ability to provide high-quality written and oral legal advice to the General Counsel on a timely basis
- Experience in drafting, negotiating and assessing a variety of commercial and government legal instruments
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team in a fast-paced operational in-house legal department environment
- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills as well as proven verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of government processes and approvals

- Ability to inspire client confidence, handle files independently
- Ability to effectively brief the General Counsel

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the General Counsel, in this role you will:
- Provide legal advice on a broad range of issues including drafting and interpreting commercial agreements
- Interpret and advise on regulations and laws that apply to the water and wastewater treatment industry such as the Ontario Water Resources Act, theSafe Drinking Water Act, 2002, theOccupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations
- Assist internal OCWA client groups with identifying legal risks associated with the Agency’s business
- Negotiate agreements with the Agency’s municipal and industrial clients, preparing/advising on requests for proposals, tenders and quotations, and providing general legal advice on contracts, insurance, and procurement issues
- Educate internal client groups on various legal issues, including the implication of new legislation
