Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. Within Azure Data, the big data analytics team provides a range of products that enable data engineers and data scientists to extract intelligence from all data – structured, semi-structured, and unstructured. We are in the process of integrating our disparate products into Microsoft Fabric with a set of experiences that are meant to simplify and accelerate time to value.
The Spark team in Fabric is hiring a Principal Software Engineer and is looking to push the boundaries of what is possible, again. You can help rebuild the way analytics engines process data. We build services that enable big data developers to build mission critical applications with high levels of Service Level Agreement (SLA) . As a manager or IC in our team, you will have an opportunity to work on and extend Open Source Software (OSS) technologies like Spark , Delta , Velox and Gluten as well as proprietary Microsoft services. You will help design & implement software components, participate in code reviews, design reviews, assist customers as needed to be able to leverage the service and keep the service running. You will support a team of talented engineers aiming to improve the abilities of what is possible with Spark today with industry leading performance, integration, security and reliability.
This will require exploring the frontiers of what is possible.

REQUIRED/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Java, or Scala
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience leading organizations or managing teams to successfully deliver innovation in database systems

ADDITIONAL OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Java, or Scala
  • OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Java, or Scala
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with database internals
  • Experience with distrubed systems or client server architecture
  • Experience with OSS components like the Spark eco system
  • Experience with building scalable cloud services
  • Solve problems by always leading with deep passion and empathy for customers
    Software Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $158,500 - $276,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $202,800 - $304,200 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with a team of passionate engineers to deliver success for customers
  • Design, implement, test, and operate data services.
  • Release features on time, with high quality, meeting functional, performance, scalability, and compliance requirements.
  • Drive quality right from the design phase, incorporating best practices and engineering for testability.
  • Solve problems relating to mission critical services and create solutions to prevent problem recurrence.
  • Participate in product live site and operations.
  • Mentor and grow our engineers to better deliver on the goals above
