Description:

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
At Scottish Water, our purpose is to support a flourishing Scotland by looking after Scotland’s most precious natural resource, from source to tap. We keep Scotland supplied with world class water, as well as care for our environment every minute of every day.
The teams across Scotland strive to ensure high standards are met and we are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Project Manager to join our Investment Delivery West Regional Hub Team in our Glasgow, Stepps, office.
The role within our Regional Hubs involves working on a variety of different project types on new and existing assets, to ensure they are remediated to meet the relevant Scottish Water standards and specifications. The role covers all stages of the project lifecycle, working collaboratively with internal and external team members to ensure successful project delivery at a high level of performance.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a project Manager, you will be responsible for managing the delivery of a portfolio of Civil, M&E and Infrastructure projects, covering all stages of the project lifecycle. You’ll be working towards budgets and output performance, and you will prepare monthly updates for portfolio of projects which include status of out-turn costs, milestone completion dates and timely resource demands within our integrated reporting system, Unifier.
You’ll be motivated to create trusted relationships with key stakeholders in a Regional Hub: the client (Strategic Customer Service Planning), the operator (Customer Services Delivery), Third Parties through SSD (Specialist Service Delivery), the customer and the area integrated team.
Decision making is an important part of this job as well as monitoring performance of Consultants and Commercial Partners, acting where necessary in respect of their Health and safety (H&S), project management and delivery performance. You will also assist with compliance, in relation to appropriate governance approvals; preparing papers and supporting information as required within Unifier; meet Quality and Environmental legislative requirements and ensure project targets deliver the achievement of Critical Success Factors, as laid down in the Investment Delivery Business Plan.
The nature of this role will require monthly travel to project sites; therefore, a full driving licence is required. In accordance with Scottish Water’s new Hybrid Working policy, it is anticipated that a large part of the role can be carried out from the location that suits you best, including from your home, but some travel will be required to the Scottish Water office in Stepps.
What You’ll Need
We are looking for someone who has a qualification to Degree, HND or HNC level in Engineering, Project Management or equivalent. You will be able to demonstrate the successful management and delivery of projects, with water industry experience is preferred but not essential. Previous project commercial and financial management experience would also be advantageous.
An understanding of both statutory H&S regulations and the application of Engineering Forms of contract would be invaluable. However, we are able to provide training and development in these areas. A general understanding of MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and email correspondence systems would be beneficial.
We are looking for a strong communicator who has proven ability to work with stakeholders and has experience of customer engagement as well as proven experience of planning and setting performance milestones.
Looking out for you
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), and life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
From 1st April 2024 Scottish Water is moving to a new grading and pay structure. This role will be a Grade 7, with a salary range from £41,000 to £51,970. New external hires will normally be expected to join on the minimum salary.
If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on the 11th of April 2024.
Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don’t worry - we’ll ask your permission before starting these checks.
A few final things worth knowing…
Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We’re also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you’ll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
We’re here to help. Ask us anything at
