We are seeking an enthusiastic grade 1 or 2 Respiratory Scientist, or recent science/psychophysiology graduate to join our lung function laboratory at Western health. Grading (1 or 2) will be in accordance with the applicable enterprise bargaining agreement (EBA) as indicated in the position descriptions.
The respiratory scientist is at the forefront of daily clinical services such as spirometry, gas transfer, lung volumes, maximum/minimum pressures and airway challenge tests. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to further develop their skills by being involved in the quality control program and oxygen clinic. The position requires cross campuses work in order to support the clinical needs of the department. The lung function laboratory is a TSANZ accredited laboratory.
Situated in the largest growth corridor in Melbourne, Western Health is growing to meet this demand. Plans are underway for a new Footscray Hospital which will be completed in 2025. Our department will be increasing in size and will present opportunities for scientists to grow professionally within the unit.
This is a temporary, full-time opportunity (80 hours per fortnight).

Responsibilities:

Essential Criteria:

  • A relevant science degree (e.g., biomedical science)
  • Significant experience in lung function testing (Based on experience)
  • The ability to maintain the highest skill set in terms of complex and specialised testing procedures
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including effective written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Willingness to support the operational needs of the scientific units, by performing a variety of shifts (covering days, evenings, nights) as per roster

Desirable Criteria:

  • A recognised qualification in respiratory (CRFS)
  • Familiarity with TSANZ respiratory laboratory accreditation program
  • Leadership capacity (based on experience)
  • Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) experience
