The Senior Database Developer specializes in leveraging Snowflake for advanced database development, with a significant role in business analysis. Suited for individuals who excel in dynamic environments, the role focuses on the complete BI lifecycle from source data analysis, through ETL development with Talend, to Analysis and Reporting in Tableau. The incumbent will be pivotal in designing and developing data warehouses from scratch, enhancing data discovery and management capabilities. The role demands a proactive approach to developing and implementing data structures that provide the business with timely, actionable insights, primarily utilizing Snowflake, and complemented by expertise in Talend for ETL processes.

Essential Duties:

  • Prioritize the development, deployment, and tuning of ETL processes in Talend, leveraging Snowflake as the primary database platform to ensure optimal performance and data management.
  • Lead the initiative to design and develop data warehouses directly within Snowflake, applying industry best practices for scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Optimize Snowflake data structures for enhanced performance and efficient data management, making it the cornerstone of our database strategy.
  • Document all processes, models, and ETL workflows comprehensively, adhering to SDLC principles and ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders, including business analysts, project managers, and end-users, to capture requirements, facilitate user acceptance testing, and deliver tailored BI solutions.
  • Provide dedicated application support, including addressing ad-hoc data requests and ensuring the integrity and security of data within Snowflake.

Experience, Education & Certifications:

  • A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in database development, with a strong emphasis on using Snowflake and ETL development with Talend. Experience with SQL, Oracle, and SSIS is also beneficial but not the primary focus.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in Agile (SCRUM/Kanban) environments, emphasizing continuous delivery, automated testing, and deployment.
  • Extensive background in the design and development of data warehouses, particularly within Snowflake, showcasing a strong understanding of data warehousing principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with deploying and managing data solutions in cloud-hosted environments.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Snowflake for database management and data warehousing, with Talend as the primary tool for ETL processes. Knowledge of SQL, Oracle, and SSIS is seen as advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability in database tuning, specifically within Snowflake, to enhance OLAP environment performance.
  • Solid system analysis and design capabilities, with a keen eye for leveraging Snowflake’s features to meet business needs.
  • Experience with Reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is preferred, with an ability to integrate these tools with Snowflake data sources.
  • Understanding of Retail systems, including point-of-sales, warehousing/distribution, and merchandising systems, would be beneficial.

Competencies:

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and analytical thinking, with a focus on optimizing Snowflake environments.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with both technical and non-technical team members.
  • Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and completeness in all technical documentation and development processes.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and changing business requirements, particularly within the Snowflake and Talend ecosystems.
  • This position is ideal for a technically adept individual passionate about database development and data warehousing, seeking to make a significant impact using Snowflake and Talend. The role offers the opportunity to lead initiatives in a fast-paced environment, directly contributing to the strategic use of data within the organization.
