ABOUT THE ROLE:

Grade Level (for internal use): 10
The Role: The individual in this role will be responsible for day-to-day reporting on the Middle East crude oil and/or refined oil products market. He or she will be responsible for every aspect of market reporting, including the collection and publication of primary market information, running an assessment process, assessing the value of crude oil, refined oil products, reporting market-related news, writing commentary and analysis, contributing to methodology development and engaging with market sources.
The Impact: The Middle East is a region of paramount importance to global oil markets as a supplier of crude oil to the world. Increasingly, it’s also becoming a center for refined oil products trading following the surge in refining capacity in recent decades and evolution of Fujairah as a logistics hub. Market participation is growing with the region’s traditionally conservative national oil companies setting up trading desks to join dozens of buyers/sellers, independent traders and oil majors already active in the market. Based in Dubai, the associate editor in this role will be uniquely positioned to cover markets across the Middle East, but also report on trade flows between the East and the West, in collaboration with Platts - a part of S&P Global Commodity Insights oil market reporting teams in Singapore and London.
The Career Opportunity: Platts has a strong global brand and established assessment methodology. You’ll be joining the well-respected oil markets reporting teams and will gain exposure and understanding of the Asia and Middle East crude oil and refined products pricing and markets.
Your Skills: The ideal candidate will have a background in oil market reporting, pricing or analytics, have a deep and thorough understanding of Asia and Middle East oil markets, knowledge of trading strategies, an understanding of derivatives markets, written and verbal communication skills. The candidate will be expected to take initiative and ownership of oil price reporting in the Middle East, contribute information to Platts existing price benchmarks and look for opportunities to develop new ones.
Our Hiring Manager says: “The individual will join the team that produces some of the most prominent benchmarks in the Asia and Middle East markets. I’m looking for a self-driven individual who’s outstanding in news reporting and able to uphold our standards.”

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Gather oil market information, produce price assessments, write commentary, news and market analysis Follow price trends and report on these in a timely manner Conduct analysis, contribute to content development activities and thought leadership pieces Develop and expand on our already expansive list of sources and contacts

OUR PURPOSE:

Progress is not a self-starter. It requires a catalyst to be set in motion. Information, imagination, people, technology–the right combination can unlock possibility and change the world.
