POSITION SUMMARY:

The High School Staff Associate works as part of the ASPIRE High School component by providing case management services including academic support, gender-based programming, delivering life skill activities and lessons and supporting not only the student, but the family as a whole. They must attend bi-weekly High School Component meetings and weekly ASPIRE meeting.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish)
  • Experience working in mentoring programs.
  • Familiarity with community agencies in the Greater Norwalk area.
  • Experience working with youth in an educational or social service setting.
  • Must have awareness of the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients served and an ability to work well with low-income families.
  • Dependable, organized, consistent, flexible, and patient.
  • Self-reflective & open/receptive to feedback & guidance
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office – including Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • First Aid and CPR (adult and child) certified (can be obtained once hired).
  • Clean driving and criminal record.

PRODUCTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Document monthly/quarterly clients via attendance at meetings, e-mails, or phone contact.
  • Keep charts updated with annual forms and monthly progress notes, activity logs, etc.

Responsibilities:

PURPOSE/FUNCTION OF THE PROGRAM:

The ASPIRE High School Component’s mission is to provide a continuum of services to Norwalk’s At-Risk High School youth by focusing on academic success, building developmental assets and strengthening supports, which will empower youth to graduate high school and be enrolled in post-secondary education or vocational training. The program runs 12 months a year and is open to those children who completed our middle school component. Students enrolled in the program will be assigned a case manager who, together with the student, develop and monitor individual goals while coordinating and providing ongoing services based in academic support, life skill activities and leadership opportunities.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain caseload of High School Students and families including assessment, development, and monitoring of their individual goals
  • When required provide advocacy for the needs of both the student and family members
  • Intake/Assessment of graduating 8th graders assigned to caseload ensuring a smooth transition into High School Program, including administration of DAP.
  • Together, high school supervisor hold regular parent meetings for the purpose of education, support, and engagement
  • Academic monitoring with consistent communication with teachers and schools adding supportive service as needed
  • Develop and execute life skill groups
  • Hold meetings with students on site at the two high schools in Norwalk.
  • Maintain organized client files and write clear and concise case notes re: interactions with students, parents, etc.
