Responsibilities:
Representation of the subject “Theoretical Physics” in research and teaching. The research
focus should be on theoretical solid state physics, for example, in the research areas of the
physics of exotic phases, the equilibrium and non-equilibrium physics of strongly correlated
systems, quantum materials and quantum matter, the physics of emergent many-body
phenomena, as well as in the development of corresponding numerical or analytical
methods.
Collaboration with various working groups in the research focus Physics
(“Forschungsschwerpunkt Physik”) as well as collaborations with partners at other national
and international top research institutions and participation in collaboration projects (e.g.
Cluster of Excellence QuantA, special research areas) are expected. Collaborations with the
Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI) of the Austrian Academy of
Sciences are desired. The integration of the position into the university’s research focus
Scientific Computing (“Forschungsschwerpunkt Scientific Computing”) is welcome.
In teaching, the professorship should fully participate in the courses of theoretical physics.
This includes the study programs in physics at the bachelor, master and PhD level as well as
programs leading to secondary teacher accreditation in physics. Teaching includes the
supervision of bachelor, master and PhD theses.
The holder of the position is expected to participate in the strategic development of the
Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics (MIP) as well as in the academic
self-administration of the institute and faculty.
