You have strong case management skills and understand the importance of ensuring safe and healthy mentoring relationships between volunteer mentors and our Mentees (ages 7-17).

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mentoring Coordinator initiates, facilitates, supports, and monitors the mentoring relationship between a youth (the “Little” or “Mentee”) in need of academic support and an adult volunteer (the “Big Sister” or “Mentor” ). Recruiting, interviewing, screening, training, and supporting volunteers, as well as ongoing record keeping via database management, are key components of this position.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Minimum 2-year post-secondary diploma with related work experience (required) or a bachelor’s degree in social sciences or humanities (preferred)
  • 1 - 3 years direct program delivery experience working with children and families, ideally in a not-for-profit social services organization
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community-based programs and provincial support systems for youth & families is preferred
  • An equivalent combination of experience & education will be considered, however, a minimum 2-year diploma is mandated by our National Standards

OTHER KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES / TRAINING

  • A clear criminal records check, including vulnerable sector (Big Sisters will reimburse the cost of obtaining a CRC if candidate does not have a recent one)
  • Computer literate, experience with databases such as Microsoft Dynamics as strong asset
  • Additional language(s) an asset
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is an asset
