12 MONTH CONTRACT
The York Region Children’s Aid Society (YRCAS) is a non-profit community organization legally mandated to protect children and youth from abuse and neglect. As a leader within the child welfare sector, we partner with parents, caregivers, and community to provide a safe environment for children and youth, through equitable, culturally aligned services.

To support us on our journey, YRCAS is looking for a Communications Consultant to support our Equity, Innovation and Community Engagement Department.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Strong organizational skills and project management skills with results-driven orientation and ability to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to create and execute communication plans.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro.
- Proficiency with other video editing software and processes is highly desired.
- Demonstrated understanding of effective marketing techniques and branding initiatives.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- High degree of judgment, initiative, and discretion in dealing with sensitive political and client issues.
- Excellent written and editing skills for both print and electronic communications tools.
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to function efficiently under pressure with constantly changing priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated skills in producing inclusive communications materials for cultural and diverse communities.
- Demonstrated understanding of power and privilege and forms of oppression and the ability to apply the elements of an inclusive anti oppressive practice to communications and interaction with media and public.
- Knowledge of email marketing software such as Constant Contact or other similar programs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of an undergraduate degree in Communications/Public Relations/Journalism/Political Science plus two to three years progressive experience in a communication Department, preferably in a not-for-profit environment.
OR
Other educational and personal qualifications together with experience that, in the opinion of the Director of EICE constitute adequate and suitable preparations for the position.
PAY GRADE: 6 Non-Union ($85,455.52 to $108,300.25)
HOURS OF WORK 33.75 hours per week

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Equity, Innovation and Community Engagement (EICE) the Communications Consultant is responsible for the development, implementation and management of the Agency’s internal and external communications strategies, special events, agency publications, website, and social media presence, as well as garnering proactive media coverage. The incumbent will provide dedicated support to identified partners, and assist in creating and sustaining a positive profile of the Agency among internal and external audiences. Provide aid in the development and promotion of an inclusive environment, and provide support to the People and Culture Department for internal communications and increased staff engagement.
