The York Region Children’s Aid Society (YRCAS) is a non-profit community organization legally mandated to protect children and youth from abuse and neglect. As a leader within the child welfare sector, we partner with parents, caregivers, and community to provide a safe environment for children and youth, through equitable, culturally aligned services.

To support us on our journey, YRCAS is looking for an Adoption and Permanency Worker to support our Child, Youth & Family Wellbeing Department.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • A thorough knowledge of child welfare legislation and Society policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • A high level of professional knowledge and experience in child development, behaviour and welfare.
  • Good knowledge of Adoption practices and philosophy.
  • Strong assessment skills in order to complete home studies and adoption matches.
  • Analytical skills to resolve problems, identify and meet program requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Knowledge of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion practices and principles, including sensitivity to Indigenous, Black, racialized, gender, and disability-related issues and their intersection(s) with other identities including socio-economic status, religion, sexual orientation, age, marital status, family status, etc.
  • Knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action, and the OACAS Indigenous Reconciliation Framework
  • Knowledge of the One Vision One Voice Practice Framework Race Equity practices
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to share information in a clear, concise and accurate manner.
  • Good written communication skills to document information in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.
  • Organizational skills to priories tasks, be self-initiating and work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with community professionals and colleagues, birth parents, child clients, and prospective adoptive parents.
  • Bilingualism in French would be considered an asset.
  • SAFE and/or PRIDE training would be considered an asset.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Social Work Degree (BSW) or BSW equivalency
  • Master’s Degree in Human Services related field, and a minimum of three (3) years relevant experience working with children and families
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services related field, and a minimum of three (3) years relevant experience working with children and families
    PAY GRADE: Union- Pay Grade 7 ($73,840.98 - $96,195.10)
    HOURS OF WORK 33.75 hours per week

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Adoption and Permanency Supervisor, the Adoption and Permanency Worker will work within the Resource service area of the Child, Youth and Family Wellbeing Department.
