REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for a motivated person with the following requirements:

  • Master of Science (MSc) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or equivalent
  • 2-3 years of research experience in machine learning, AI, or related fields
  • Demonstrated advanced programming skills in Python
  • Strong interest in applying machine learning techniques to climate change research
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing deep learning algorithms
  • Proficiency with modern machine learning tools, with particular expertise in PyTorch

Desirable:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or equivalent
  • Expanded record of publications in peer-reviewed scientific literature, specifically in machine learning and/or climate change domains
  • Demonstrated knowledge of uncertainty quantification in mathematical models
  • Advanced expertise in specific deep learning methodologies, including:
  • Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs)
  • Transformer architectures
  • Large Language Models (LLMs)
  • Deep reinforcement learning
  • Distinctive advantage: In-depth knowledge of foundation model design and implementation
  • Skills on computer vision applied to satellite data

Technical skills:

  • Advanced Python programming
  • Deep learning framework expertise (PyTorch)
  • Statistical analysis and machine learning techniques
  • Data preprocessing and feature engineering
  • Experience with climate/environment-related datasets
  • Version control (git)
  • Research and scientific writing
Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to work on the following tasks which include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing advanced machine learning and deep learning algorithms to analyze climate-related datasets;
  • designing and conducting independent research projects that leverage AI technologies to gain insights into climate systems;
  • participation in research projects, by collaborating with interdisciplinary teams of climate scientists, economists, data scientists, and domain experts
  • publishing research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presenting at international conferences;
  • contributing to the development of new models and innovative AI approaches for climate change research.
