The Chair of Sensory Physiology (Prof. K. Krug) of the Faculty of Natural Sciences seeks to fill the following vacancy:
Postdoctoral Scientist / Junior Research Group leader (m/f/d) in primate neuroscience

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:

  • a Master’s degree and a PhD in neuroscience, medicine, or another natural science and a strong quantitative background
  • high-level experience with mammalian behaviour, neurophysiology, MRI, focused ultrasound, opto- and chemogenetics, in particular with non-human primates
  • experience in computational modelling or programming, e.g. with MATLAB or Python, and in statistical methods
  • an emerging track record in scientific publishing, funding acquisition and teaching
  • experience in the supervision of students
  • excellent language skills in English (German language skills are welcome but not essential)
  • confidence and motivation to develop own research profile as a junior group leader in the department

Responsibilities
  • to investigate the neural basis of perceptual decision-making and visual cognition in non-human primates
  • to determine the direct contribution of specific circuit elements to perceptual decisions through optogenetic and chemogenetic modulation as well as transcranial focused ultrasound
  • to compare perceptual coding between human and non-human species using high-field MRI
  • to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team taking responsibility for research progress and research reporting, presentations at scientific meetings etc.
  • to write grants, co-supervise students and develop own research
  • to contribute to the development of methodology, the conduct of animal experiments in the laboratory and the fostering of international collaborations
  • to contribute to teaching biomedical and advanced neuroscience students (4 semester hours per week; mentoring will be provided)
