This position plays a critical role in assisting in the efficient operation of high-speed specialty folder gluer machines, maintaining the highest standards in safety, quality, and productivity. Major Responsibilities: Support a Machine Operator with a strong focus on safety, quality control, housekeeping, and production efficiency. Collaborate with Design, Client Services, Scheduling, Sales, and Maintenance teams to coordinate order fulfillment and pre-production planning to meet customer specifications and deadlines. Ensure compliance with all plant safety procedures, quality assurance protocols, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Assist in the operation and set up a variety of specialty folder gluer equipment (e.g., Bobst, J&L, Revi-Cart, or equivalent) according to job specifications. Assist with setting and calibrating machine components including: Feeder belts, folding fingers, back fold mechanisms Glue systems and patterns (cold or hot melt applications) Folding rails, rollers, delivery belts, and compression sections Perform and document incoming material inspections, in-process quality checks, and final product verifications to meet ISO or GFSI standards (if applicable). Help monitor and achieve target setup times and run speeds while minimizing machine downtime and scrap. Communicate with supervisors for reassignment or machine downtime management, escalating mechanical issues to the Maintenance Department as necessary. Accurately input production data using manufacturing software or ERP system (e.g., Amtech or similar) Daily Responsibilities: Assist in performing machine setup and quality checks at the beginning of each shift. Input shift production data, scrap, downtime, and performance metrics into production tracking software. Complete all required inspection documentation (e.g., performance logs, quality checklists, job tickets). Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with 5S and lean manufacturing principles. Ensure glue tanks, nozzles, and application systems are cleaned and operating efficiently. Weekly Responsibilities: Help to coordinate with Maintenance and Production Supervisors to ensure machines receive preventative maintenance and cleaning. Help to review job changeovers and recommend improvements for efficiency and quality. Support training and onboarding of new team members and cross-train operators on specialized equipment as needed. Participate in departmental safety meetings. As-Needed Responsibilities: Assist in the calibration of quality inspection devices and review Standard Work procedures. Assist to execute scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance tasks including belt adjustments, lubrication, and part replacements. Safely handle, dispose of, and label adhesive waste and production scrap according to company policy and environmental regulations. Assist in the transition and setup for new product launches, prototyping, or customer trials. Other duties as assigned Qualifications Skills & Qualifications: Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and adjust high-speed folder gluer equipment. Working knowledge of corrugated substrates, folding/gluing specifications, and finishing processes (e.g., crash-lock bottom, four-corner, six-corner, etc.). Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills. Competency in using Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and production reporting software. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, job tickets, and QA documents. Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. 3–5+ years of hands-on experience operating specialty folder gluers in packaging industry Previous leadership or team lead experience is highly desirable. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods (up to 12-hour shifts). Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and operate equipment in a manufacturing environment. Tolerance to noise, dust, and adhesives commonly found in corrugated facilities.
