The MSW Social Worker Outpatient Mental Health and Addictions will provide therapy for those receiving services at Woodstock Hospital and/or the Oxford County Wellness Centre.

EDUCATION

  • Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited university
Responsibilities
  • Complete comprehensive psychosocial assessment and implement a comprehensive counselling plan
  • Candidate will use a variety of treatment modalities such as EMDR (treatment of trauma), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (for treatment of depression, anxiety and other serious mental illness), Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy as well as group therapy interventions
  • Make necessary referrals when appropriate to internal/external services as part of the treatment plan
  • Provide follow up services when appropriate
  • Advocate for clients at program and system levels
  • Participate in case review and presentations as part of a multidisciplinary team and contribute to other service planning activities on behalf of client
  • Complete necessary documentation in accordance with Woodstock Hospital’s Mental Health Services Policies, PHIPA and Professional Standards of Practice
  • Contribute to the quality assurance requirement (internal/external evaluation, data collection system)
  • Provide consultation to significant others and referral services
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate psycho education and treatment-based group programming
  • Provide educational opportunities for mental health staff, other hospital staff, students and the wider community
  • Provide psychosocial assessment and treatment to outpatients who are dealing with moderate to severe mental health issues, including addiction concerns
  • Facilitate individual therapy while adhering to best practices. The delivery of individual psychotherapy/counselling requires competence in the assessment and treatment of clients while ensuring the provision of quality patient care
  • Utilize and complete relevant clinical documentation for each respective client, including assessments, progress notes and termination summaries for client files in a timely manner
  • Monitor and maintain the fidelity of the individual therapy program by participating in ongoing clinical and team discussions (case conferences, team meetings, departmental meetings) to ensure the planning, implementation and evaluation of services aligns with service requirements while meeting clinical needs and expectations
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues within and across disciplines by engaging in consistent and ad hoc clinical discussions to ensure appropriate feedback and updates are provided to them regarding the involvement of clients in the Individual Therapy program
  • Ensure individual therapy standards of practice align with corporate policies and procedures
  • Assist clients with referrals to appropriate community agencies and/or resources as needed
  • Participate in hospital and community liaison activities and/or committees as delegated and required to ensure effective delivery of service
  • Receive regularly scheduled clinical and administrative supervision by the Director of Mental Health Services or delegate
  • Keep abreast of new developments within the field of Mental Health, including addictions. Maintain and upgrade skills as required
  • Act as a Field Practicum Instructor and/or supervisor to Social Work students placed at the hospital, as requested by the Director of Mental Health and Addictions Services.
  • Carry out a teaching role within Mental Health Services through participation, and presentation at the regularly scheduled staff education seminars and other educational forums existing within the hospital. This role may also extend to the community.
  • Maintain timely and accurate statistical records of activities for Departmental, Hospital, and Ministry purposes.
  • Consult with Director of Mental Health Services or assigned delegate, when administrative, therapeutic, or legal matters could result in significant or serious outcome to client, hospital, and/or therapist.
