REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

This position replaces a teacher on leave. The successful applicant for this position must possess a Certificate of Qualification from the Teacher Regulation Branch and demonstrate evidence of the following:

  • Native-like fluency in spoken and written French;
  • A sound pedagogy in French Immersion education;
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience supporting a balanced literacy programme with emergent readers in a French Immersion setting
  • Understanding, training and experience with the IB PYP curriculum preferably with the completion of at least one Level 1, 2, or 3 workshop;
  • Current knowledge, recent successful experience and training at the Primary and Lower Intermediate levels in French Immersion with a strong background in integrating curriculum areas,
  • Experience with pedagogy and implementation of combined classes would be an asset;
  • An ability to develop a positive learning environment addressing the intellectual, physical and emotional needs of this age group;
  • Knowledge and willingness to use Inquiry-based approach to planning and teaching;
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to teach, assess and plan a program building on the goals and outcomes of the new Ministry of Education curriculum;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills and proven ability, commitment and drive to work co-operatively and effectively with other educators in a collegial team setting;
  • Possess excellent communication skills with students, staff and parents;
  • Knowledge and experience in working with Special Needs students and support staff with a focus on Differentiated Instruction in the classroom and demonstrated ability to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners through a broad array of teaching strategies and differentiated instruction;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the area of Technology and the ability to integrate technology such as Coding, and ADST-related curriculum into the learning;
  • Ability to use formative assessment practices to improve student achievement with emphasis on the Performance Standards;
  • A classroom management style that focuses on structure, mutual respect, natural consequences, consistency and positive reinforcement;
  • Knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of needs;
  • Ability to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum-based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods;
  • Competencies as set out by the BC Teacher Regulation Branch for professional educators in schools.
