REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

A full-time teaching position is available at West Bay IB World School teaching intermediate, likely either Grade 4 or 6. The successful applicant for this position must:

  • have a clear understanding of the characteristics of the intermediate student and the ability to develop a positive learning environment addressing the intellectual, physical and emotional needs of this age group, preferably in an IB PYP classroom;
  • be willing to collaboratively plan units of inquiry to be taught through a guided inquiry approach;
  • have demonstrated ability and experience to teach, assess and plan an intermediate program, preferably with successful experience with the Primary Years Program;
  • be willing to attend on-going training and professional development for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program;
  • possess strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills and proven ability, commitment and drive to work co-operatively and effectively with other educators in a collegial team setting;
  • possess familiarity with a Universal Design for Learning approach and a deep commitment to providing the supports and encouragement for all students to be successful;
  • knowledge and experience in adapting learning objectives and strategies to meet the needs of English Language Learners at varying levels;
  • experience and a clear understanding of social and emotional learning and self-regulation;
  • knowledge and proven experience in the area of technology including the ability to integrate various technologies into the curriculum, modes of assessment, and adapting curriculum;
  • the ability to use formative assessment practices to improve student achievement with emphasis on the BC Curriculum and web-based platforms;
  • effective classroom management skills that are student-centered and focus on relationships and authentic connections;
  • a strong commitment to positive and consistent engagement and communication with parents and other stakeholders;
  • be familiar with, and have an interest in, supporting the goals outlined in the West Vancouver Indigenous Enhancement Agreement.
