GRADUATE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Upon successful completion of your placement, you may be offered a WSP scholarship, where you will be paid a bursary by us for the remaining years you have left at university. With the scholarship you will return for future placements up until you have completed your studies and will then join us as part of the Graduate Development Programme after graduation.
We have established relationships with professional institutions including but not all ICE, IStructE, IET, CIBSE, CIHT, CILT, IMechE, IChemE, CIWEM, RICS, RTPI, SocEnv & APM. You will have the opportunity to select a technical mentor to help you on your journey, and to reward you for your efforts, (when you reach certain professional milestones, you’ll even get a bonus as a thank you and well done for your hard work). We are also able to support professional development with many other approved professional institutions that may not be included in this list.

Our 2-year Graduate Programme is designed to support personal career development growth through a blended learning experience. The programme includes core business skills and career focused training, networking opportunities, professional registration mentoring and on-the-job experience. The development programme consists of four key streams illustrated below:

In this varied role as a Placement Student for the WSP Land team based in our modern Belfast Waterfront office, you will provide land referencing and administrative support to a dynamic and professional team of 25+ Land Consultants. You will assist with the delivery of detailed, high quality land ownership information to our clients for a broad range of high-profile infrastructure projects. As part of the WSP Land Team, you will have the opportunity to work closely with a multi-disciplinary engineering team, support ecologists in obtaining access for surveys and work alongside environmental specialists and planners. As a Placement Student, you will also support our landowner engagement teams in consulting with landowners, confirming landownership details and agreeing survey access. The Land team has contributed to the success of a large number of exciting infrastructure development projects across most industry sectors, including road, aviation, rail & light rail, energy, utilities, regeneration and development. This includes enabling the delivery of some of the UK’s and Ireland’s most high-profile projects, such as North-South electricity Interconnector, A5, HS2, Heathrow, and many others.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Support our Land team with Land Registry searches and assist in land title interpretation.
  • Undertake desktop research of land ownership and land boundary information.
  • Provide database support for land referencing and consultation and maintain excellent record keeping of communications
  • Using WebGIS, review land title and boundary information and mark up any amendments.
  • Manage incoming correspondence and calls, ensuring that communications are recorded and actioned in a timely, professional and courteous manner.
  • Carry out day to day office administrative functions to ensure all records and files are maintained and held securely and that confidentiality of information is upheld.
  • Under supervision, assist in the preparation of documentation for landowner meetings.
  • Assist with Project Management tasks if required.
  • Support site work activities.
  • Be an active and collaborative team member and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • Provide administrative support including the taking of notes at meetings when required.
  • Monitor and report on your development and progress.Follow company policies and procedures, in particular observing the importance of confidentiality.

You will be studying and working towards at least a 2:2 in a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject for the role you are applying for.

  • Are currently studying a Geography, Planning, Environmental Management, Countryside Management or Agriculture related degree.
  • Are proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Outlook.
  • Have experience working with the general public.
  • Have the ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Have an enthusiasm for creativity and a drive to solve problems
  • Have strong attention to detail and are conscientious.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbally and in writing
