The Vall d´Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) Seeks a “Laboratory technician” Reference: 2026-016-01 Application deadline: 18/02/2026 Number of vacancies: 1 Job description: The Computational Immunogenomics Group, led by Dr. Francisco Martínez-Jiménez, is seeking a motivated and skilled laboratory technician to join our team. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of T-lymphocyte biology and immuno-oncology with strong translational implications. The successful candidate will play a key role in the processing of blood and tumor samples from the ERC-funded tL-CHANCER project, applying a range of molecular biology techniques. Key Responsibilities: Establish and maintain laboratory operations, including purchasing, setup, and management of equipment and reagents Organize, coordinate, and document shipment, reception, processing, and long-term storage of biological samples Perform PBMC isolation using Ficoll gradients, as well as freezing and thawing cells and maintaining sterile cell culture conditions Execute basic molecular biology procedures, including DNA/RNA extraction, quantification, and quality control Ensure proper labeling, tracking, and shipment of samples in compliance with regulations in collaboration with the Project Manager Maintain laboratory organization, SOPs, and biosafety standards Work independently and proactively, with the external guidance of qualified technician, but serving as the primary laboratory expert within a multidisciplinary team Work closely with computational scientists and the Project Manager and contribute to an exciting, interdisciplinary research project. Required Qualifications: Degree in Life Sciences (Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, or related field) Strong hands-on laboratory experience, with the ability to work autonomously Proven experience with: PBMC isolation using Ficoll DNA/RNA extraction and quantification Sterile cell culture techniques Experience managing lab logistics, including reagents, equipment, and sample inventories High level of organization, reliability, and attention to detail Ability to take initiative and troubleshoot independently in a laboratory setting Comfortable working in a team led by a non–wet-lab (computational) supervisor Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with investigators, nurses, and clinical personnel across multiple sites Desirable / Nice-to-Have Experience with flow cytometry Familiarity with clinical or translational sample handling Experience setting up a laboratory or new experimental workflows Additional information: We offer a 4 year appointment with a possible extension depending on evaluation and funding availability.
