Description Summer Camp Site Director Penobscot Bay YMCA | Seasonal Leadership Role Ready to take the lead this summer? The Penobscot Bay YMCA is seeking a responsible, organized, and energetic Camp Site Director to help lead a successful and engaging summer camp program. This is a hands-on leadership role perfect for someone who enjoys working with kids, mentoring staff, and keeping programs running smoothly. The Penobscot Bay YMCA is a community cornerstone where all people can connect, grow, and thrive. As Camp Site Director, you play an important role in bringing that mission to life for the children and families we serve each summer. Position Details • June 2026 – August 2026 • Required training week: TBA (5:00 PM – 9:00 PM) • Monday–Friday (up to 40 hours per week) • Scheduled between 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM • Weekends off • $22/hour • +$1/hour with lifeguard certification What You’ll Do • Support the Camp Director in planning and implementing daily camp programming • Help supervise, guide, and support camp counselors and volunteers • Lead morning and afternoon camp meetings • Oversee literacy and S.T.E.M. activities • Maintain accurate camp records (attendance, incident reports, field trip forms, schedules) • Respond professionally to parent and community questions • Help monitor program participation and overall camp success • Ensure a safe, welcoming, and positive camp environment • Perform CPR/First Aid when necessary • Assist with weekly staff meetings • Support the overall success of camp operations What We’re Looking For • Strong leadership and organizational skills • Experience working with children (camp, childcare, coaching, etc.) • Ability to manage responsibilities in a fast-paced environment • Clear and confident communication skills • Emotional maturity and sound decision-making • Commitment to YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring Why This Role Matters The YMCA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Requirements Qualifications • Must be at least 21 years of age • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred • Previous experience working with children (camp, childcare, coaching, education, etc.) • Experience or interest in areas such as outdoor recreation, sports, arts & crafts, music, STEM, aquatics, or group games • CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications required (must be completed before or shortly after hire — training provided if needed) • Demonstrated maturity, sound judgment, and the ability to create a safe, positive environment for all campers We’re looking for someone who leads with confidence, communicates clearly, and brings both responsibility and fun to the camp experience.
