REQUIREMENTS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Certificate or minimum of 3 years in related studies toward a degree such as Therapeutic Recreation, Leisure Studies, Child Care, Social Sciences, or Education.
  • Minimum 1 year direct experience with youth in a recreational setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Formal training in the area of counselling and behavior management.
  • Requires physical strength, good balance, mobility and endurance for recreational activities.
  • Working knowledge of, or experience in, designing and delivering curriculum tailored to individuals with disabilities
  • Experience supporting individuals in developing pre-employment skills is preferred.
  • Criminal Record Clearance
  • Medical Clearance
  • Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
  • Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Valid First Aid/CPR
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certification - training will be provided
  • Demonstrated competency in English written and verbal communication
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Eligible to work in Canada

Responsibilities

The Child & Youth Worker position provides life skills training to individuals with disabilities. The successful candidate will support participants in developing essential life skills, including: building independence, obtaining personal identification, navigating post-secondary education options, managing personal banking, applying for Persons with Disabilities Benefits and using public transit confidently. The role may also involve facilitating pre-employment workshops and assisting individuals in preparing for the workforce.
