Description

SPECIALIST OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

Are you passionate about the care of older people? Are you interested in rural health care? Are you keen to be actively involved in service development? If so, we have a rare and exciting opportunity for a Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our Clydesdale and Stonehouse Community Hospital Service.
As part of a multidisciplinary team our service provides occupational therapy assessment, treatment and discharge planning for patients within our sites at Lady Home Hospital in Douglas, Kello Hospital in Biggar and Stonehouse Hospital in Stonehouse. We treat, predominantly, older adults with a range of medical conditions including frailty, falls, stroke, dementia, and a wide range of orthopaedic conditions. At our Lady Home and Kello sites we occasionally have patients under the age of 65 years with a range of different health conditions.
We are a forward thinking team consisting of senior health care support workers, assistant practitioners and registered specialist occupational therapists. We regularly support occupational therapy student placements – utilising both traditional and innovative approaches to placements. We are passionate about service development not only within the occupational therapy service, but with the wider MDT. Some recent and ongoing work includes reviewing the MDT approach to reducing falls and continuing to develop our active wards approach. Our current occupational therapy work plan also includes upskilling the AHP team knowledge and skills in working with older people who are neurodivergent, implementation of an outcome measure and improving goal setting.
We have close links with our colleagues working in acute hospitals and also community colleagues from the integrated community support teams and social work. We have active work streams with these colleagues to improve wider services, positively impact on patient care and to share best practice.
We are looking for a motivated, experienced and forward thinking Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our team and to assist in the leadership and development of our team. As a team we will provide a thorough induction, regular supervision, regular team meetings, CPD time and access to training opportunities. This role will provide particular opportunity to develop leadership and service development skills through practical application and access to several NHS Lanarkshire leadership courses (application necessary).
The base of this post and working pattern will be discussed following interview with the preferred candidate. However, travel between the three sites is to be expected to provide clinical cover and support to colleagues as well as to attend meetings/training events.
