The Oncology Physics Department at Edinburgh Cancer Centre (ECC) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Band 7 Support Clinical Scientist to join our team, taking an active role in our Dosimetry, Treatment Planning, Brachytherapy and Technology sections. This will include machine QA and dosimetry, patient specific QA, commissioning, R&D, routine service and new technique development in treatment planning for external beam radiotherapy & HDR/LDR brachytherapy. Previous experience with Varian hardware and software would be advantageous, but full training will be given.
Applicants should have an honours degree in physics or other relevant subject, an accredited postgraduate degree and should be registered with the HCPC as a Clinical Scientist. Applications from those with an appropriate Masters degree and clinical experience who will achieve registration within approximately 6 months of appointment (for appointment at an appropriate level) will be considered.
For external beam therapy, the department has 7 Varian TrueBeam linacs (2 with HD-MLC and Brainlab ExacTrac Dynamic SGRT systems for SRS treatments), with a linac replacement expected within the next 12 months that the post holder would be involved in. The department also possesses an XStrahl superficial therapy X-ray unit primarily used for skin treatments. For HDR Brachytherapy the department has an Elekta Flexitron Afterloader with Oncentra Treatment planning software. Our LDR interoperative interstitial treatments use Varian Variseed treatment planning software. For simulation, we have two wide-bore Philips Brilliance CTs with RGSC. Varian Eclipse 16 and Brainlab Elements are used for external beam treatment planning with ARIA 16 as the Record and Verify system, with the intention to upgrade to Eclipse/Aria v18 later this year to support the ongoing active development of VMAT and SABR techniques within Treatment Planning. ECC has an established intra-cranial Stereotactic service and is designated as the provider for the National Specialist Service for Benign Lesions for Scotland. The department is an active participant in clinical trials and has research links to the University of Edinburgh.
