Position Description: Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred.
  • School Counseling Certification preferred.
  • 3-5 years teaching/counseling experience, preferably at the high school level.
  • Experience working in an urban school setting.
  • Experience implementing pedagogical strategies and developing a CCS counseling program relevant to Inwood Academy for Leadership.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Passion for creating a school community that supports the development and achievement of all students, particularly those underserved and at risk in other school settings.
  • Rigorous approach to problem-solving - collecting all relevant information, consulting diverse perspectives, and creating feedback systems.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in delivering the academic preparation and requisite support for all students to be prepared to succeed in college and career.
  • Provides direct support service to individual students, small groups, and classrooms.
  • Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified academic and general SEL concerns and needs.
  • Accurately and appropriately tracks, interprets, and utilizes school data to make informed strategic counseling decisions.
  • Completes assessments, referrals, and counseling with students and families.
  • Provide direct service to students in the classroom at least once per week.
  • Monitors student academic performance, behavior and attendance and facilitates appropriate interventions to push towards graduation progress.
  • Assists with high school scheduling and graduation progress monitoring.
  • Communicates with families on a regular basis to share student growth and progress towards goals.
  • Models effective counseling practices in staff meetings, professional development sessions and team meetings.
  • Ensures a safe, supportive and productive environment for students, staff and families.
  • Supports and/or leads CCS department grade level events, workshops and department initiatives.
  • Measures academic progress to goals and results of the CCS programming activities and shares results with relevant stakeholders.
  • Serves as a member of the student support team and other school based teams.
