JOB SUMMARY:

The 2nd Engineer supports the Chief Engineer in the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of all mechanical and electrical systems onboard the vessel. This role is critical in ensuring the vessel’s technical performance, safety compliance, and readiness for operations. Based in Abu Dhabi, this position may involve offshore deployment, depending on the vessel assignment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid 2nd Engineer Certificate of Competency (STCW Reg. III/2) – Unlimited (or as per vessel requirement).
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a 2nd Engineer or 3rd Engineer on seagoing vessels.
  • Valid seafarer documents: Seaman Book, STCW certifications, Medical Certificate.
  • Experience with main and auxiliary diesel engines, air compressors, sewage and ballast systems.
  • Good understanding of shipboard safety procedures and environmental regulations.
  • Familiarity with PMS software and reporting tools.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Work experience in UAE waters or under Abu Dhabi Maritime Authority or ADNOC guidelines.
  • Background in offshore support vessels, tugs, tankers, or similar vessel types.
  • DP (Dynamic Positioning) system experience is a plus (if applicable).
  • Must have an Adnoc or Aramco Approval

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Chief Engineer in managing the engine room and all mechanical operations.
  • Operate and maintain propulsion systems, generators, pumps, purifiers, and auxiliary engines.
  • Execute planned maintenance and corrective repairs in line with the PMS (Planned Maintenance System).
  • Supervise and train junior engineering officers and crew.
  • Ensure compliance with international maritime safety and environmental standards (SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM).
  • Monitor fuel and lube oil consumption; assist in bunkering operations.
  • Maintain engine room logs, technical records, and machinery performance reports.
  • Support troubleshooting during machinery breakdowns and assist in emergency repairs.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and participate in emergency drills.
