Description
Overview: We are seeking high-caliber CNC Machinists to join our precision machining team in Oak Ridge. We are a specialized manufacturer producing critical, close-tolerance components for the aerospace and defense industries. If you want to see your work on satellites, fighter jets, and rockets, this is the shop for you. We focus on low-volume, short-run orders. This is a role for a true machinist who enjoys the challenge of complex geometries and one-off parts. We need someone who is not just a machine operator, but a technical problem-solver who can take a project from setup through final inspection. Compensation: $27 - $36 / hr 2nd Shift: 2nd Shift: 5:30 PM - 3:30 AM (Monday - Thursday) Responsibilities: Independent Setups & Operation – Perform complete setups, touch-offs, and tool offsets on CNC machines for high-complexity, short-run aerospace parts. G-Code Optimization – Read, interpret, and modify G-code at the controller to troubleshoot machining processes and ensure the highest accuracy. Precision Machining – Machine parts to extremely close tolerances, often working with exotic materials and complex geometries required for flight-critical applications. Manual Support – Operate manual equipment (mills, lathes, saws) as needed to support production and secondary operations. Blueprint & GD&T Literacy – Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications, including a strong mastery of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Process Improvement – Collaborate with engineering to verify CNC programs (MasterCam) and optimize machining strategies for better efficiency and quality. Quality Control – Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools to ensure 100% compliance with AS9100D and ISO 9001 standards. Qualifications: Required: Machining Experience: 3+ years of professional machining experience with a heavy emphasis on CNC setups and troubleshooting. Technical Proficiency: Proven ability to perform your own setups, offsets, and G-code modifications. Precision Background: Deep experience in close-tolerance machining and fabrication of custom-designed equipment. Blueprint Literacy: Strong ability to read complex prints and understand GD&T requirements. Tooling Knowledge: Strong knowledge of precision machining tools, metal fabrication, and mechanical equipment. Preferred: 5-Axis Experience: Prior experience with 5-axis machining is a significant advantage. Manual Skills: Proficiency in manual machining (mills/lathes) is highly valued. Industry Experience: Previous experience in an Aerospace or Defense manufacturing environment (AS9100D/Nadcap). Software: Experience with MasterCam software is a strong plus. Benefits Competitive salary and benefits package, including paid healthcare, holidays, and vacation. Matching 401k. Education reimbursement. Opportunities for professional growth and development.
