Description POSITION SUMMARY: Operates grinding tools following instructions and standard charts in applying knowledge of grinding procedures to ensure that surfaces and dimensions meet required specifications of finished work pieces. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Operate Equipment per production schedule. Assure that grinding equipment is always in good working order and maintained Study blueprints or layouts of metal work pieces to determine grinding procedures. Set up and operate grinding equipment to grind metal work pieces. Straighten work pieces and remove dents, using straightening presses and hammers. File or finish surfaces of work pieces, using prescribed hand tools. Fit parts together in pre-assembly to ensure dimensions are accurate. Inspect, feel, and measure work pieces to ensure that surfaces and dimensions meet specifications. Remove finished work pieces from machines and place them in boxes or on racks/skids; set aside pieces that are defective. Repair cracks/dents using welding equipment. Must wear helmet and gloves for all welding regardless of size. Additional weld training will be available through Wayne Metals, LLC. Upon the discretion of the area manager. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED required, or equivalent relevant manufacturing experience 1–3 years of experience in a manufacturing, metal fabrication, grinding, or finishing environment preferred Previous experience operating grinding or finishing equipment preferred Basic welding experience or willingness to be trained in weld repair Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, drawings, and work instructions Working knowledge of grinding techniques, surface finishing, and defect removal Ability to use measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and gauges Basic understanding of metal properties and fabrication processes Ability to perform basic pre-assembly fitting to verify dimensional accuracy Ability to safely operate grinding, straightening, and welding equipment Ability to follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements, including welding helmet, gloves, eye and hearing protection Knowledge of safe material handling practice Ability to stand, bend, and work on feet for extended periods Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation Ability to perform repetitive motions involving hands, arms, and upper body Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, vibration, and heat
Responsibilities
The Grinder operates grinding tools according to instructions and standard charts to ensure finished work pieces meet specifications. Responsibilities include setting up equipment, inspecting work pieces, and performing repairs as needed.
