We are seeking a Licensed Mechanic who is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, adjustment, overhaul, and preventative maintenance of the company’s fleet, including dump trucks, heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, and other motor-powered equipment. This position ensures all work meets or exceeds industry safety standards and is completed within appropriate timelines.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • Heavy trucks and equipment systems, including hydraulics, suspension, fuel, emissions, AC, electrical, and electronic control systems
  • Snow removal equipment, salters, blades, winches, etc.
  • Ability to diagnose and solve complex mechanical problems
  • Ability to road test and perform roadside repairs
  • Ability to lift 25–65 kg, push/pull up to 200 kg, and operate overhead cranes
  • Proficient in computer use for fleet management systems and diagnostics
  • Effective communication and documentation skills
  • Leadership and mentoring capabilities
  • Ownership of a full, quality set of mechanics’ hand tools
  • Valid G-class driver’s license with an insurable driving record
  • Familiarity with OHSA, MTO regulations, and company safety standards

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • OSSD or High School Equivalency
  • Valid 310-T Truck and Coach Technician License (mandatory)
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and interpreting technical information
  • Competency using Microsoft Outlook and computer-based maintenance tracking systems
  • Minimum 3 years of related mechanical experience preferred

  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to interact with a diverse workforce preferred.

Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and test equipment to ensure safe and optimal performance
  • Use hand and power tools to repair or replace defective components
  • Conduct routine maintenance: cleaning, lubrication, and servicing attachments/tools
  • Perform seasonal preparation (e.g., snow season equipment readiness)
  • Execute repair schedules and record details in Work Orders and Daily Shop Log
  • Supervise or mentor apprentices as required
  • Conduct or participate in weekly safety talks
  • Identify and implement process improvements and cost-saving opportunities
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized workspaces in accordance with OHSA and company standards
  • Attend and participate in meetings and training sessions
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with coworkers, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Provide status updates to the Fleet Manager on job progression
  • Perform other related or ad hoc tasks as assigned
