Position description: 3D modeler generalist subcontractor - Work from home, freelance work as required, Australia wide.
3D Prototypes and Models Pty Ltd is a small company based in Adelaide specialising in all aspects of 3D printing, 3D scanning, reverse engineering, CAD and architectural model making. We currently have a large and ever-growing list of clients who require modifications to 3D files generated by scans, architectural software and other methods where the 3D file needs significant modifications to be 3D printable or even remodeled from scratch when the raw files are too incomplete. We complete this work ourselves and often subcontract this work out to individual freelancers however with the volume of work now received, we are looking for a regular, reliable subcontractor to send jobs to for a stream of commission-based work.
As the jobs are highly varied and come in whenever a client asks for it, the work is 100% done on an as-needed basis. In any given month I will have at least a few jobs with a due date of 3-5 days that needs doing with budgets typically in the range of $50-$100 for short, simple jobs that take me an hour or two to do. More complex jobs worth over $200 up to $1000+ with a due date of a few weeks will arrive every few months, with one waiting right now. The candidate is allowed to charge their own rate, hourly or per job it is entirely up to them. Please note in all situations, the subcontractor is required to provide their own quotes, customers do not provide budgets as there is often many other aspects to the job besides the 3D modeling, and a quote forms part of a larger quote for the overall project.
As of now, we have a particular need for someone skilled with working with architecture files. Very often these are provided in STL or STEP format and contain every single detail, and we need these remodeled to be 3D printable which often involves having to remodel the entire model from scratch, removing all features that are below a certain minimum size and increasing the size of certain critical features that must be maintained, to a minimum printable size. In the majority of jobs, remodeling from scratch is required in order to only keep required features and ignore everything else.
It is very important to state that this position is NOT to become an employee of 3D Prototypes and Models Pty Ltd, this is to be a regular subcontractor. As a subcontractor, you will not be required to work any specific hours, you may simply provide a completion date for the work and I leave you full freedom to do what you want, when you want, to get the job done by then. The candidate understands as a subcontractor there are no leave entitlements, no super contributions, no formal employment agreement and no sub-subcontracting. You are operating as your own self-employed entity.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Intermediate to advanced knowledge of mesh-based 3D modelling software (Blender/ZBrush/Rhino/3dS Max etc), or parametric CAD modeling (Fusion360, Solidworks etc), is required for this role.
