Description

TITLE: Packaging Engineer
JOB DESCRIPTION: Trinity Plastics, an Inteplast company, is looking for an experienced packaging engineer to join our team in Lewistown, PA. Trinity is an established and growing company in the disposer and food storage category serving grocery, warehouse club and e-commerce customers. The Lewistown plant produces trash bags and food services bags, and also packs and distributes food storage products from sister companies and outside suppliers. The candidate will oversee all phases of the design and development of packaging for our various products from concept to printed finished packaging, and ensure packaging meets performance, cost, and sustainability targets while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders —from customers to design agencies and production personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; 3+ years’ experience in packaging design/development preferably in the consumer or grocery segments
  • Solid understanding of folding board and corrugated materials, offset lithographic printing, artwork proofing, and color matching
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and TOPS software. Adobe Illustrator familiarity preferred
  • Understanding of the general and food-contact packaging regulations and acceptable packaging materials used in grocery, warehouse club, and e-commerce supply chains
  • Familiarity with ISTA testing protocols
  • Ensure consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate a willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary
  • Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interactions

Responsibilities
  • Lead packaging material selection and structural design of packaging for new products and customers
  • Work with Procurement to select printers and obtain dielines, print specs and certifications
  • Provide legal copy, product images and other required documents to customers and design agencies
  • Carefully proof all package artwork for accuracy regarding copy, imagery and regulatory requirements
  • Review printer color proofs for accuracy and color
  • Monitor print quality and resolve issues
  • Input packaging related specifications into customer spec systems
  • Engage with customers through regular team meetings via video calls
  • Partner with internal teams (Production, Procurement, Sales) and external entities (graphic design agencies, printers, suppliers) to ensure seamless packaging transitions
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives: reduce material costs, optimize packaging line efficiency, minimize waste, and enhance sustainability
  • Function as technical liaison for Trouble shooting, CAPA investigations, and preventative strategy development alongside quality and production teams
  • Document packaging specifications, standard operating procedures, bill of materials, and change records
  • Occasional travel (≤ 5%) to customer or supplier sites for packaging line audits or project kickoff meetings
